Ear pain

Ear pain is common after a cold, and often eases with time and warmth.

When it's usually nothing
  • Started with or after a cold or allergy flare.
  • Warm compress and OTC pain reliever help.
  • No fever over 102°F, no drainage.
When to get checked
  • Severe pain with high fever, or fluid draining from the ear.
  • Sudden hearing loss or dizziness.
  • Swelling or redness behind the ear.
